We visit the Stevens family in Berkshire, winners of the first annual Family of the Year

The Local Government Channel meets the Stevens family from Berkshire, winners of the first annual Family of the Year competition. The competition is organised by the National Family Week campaign to promote and celebrate families, and highlight the importance of spending quality time together. Melanie Stevens broke her back during childbirth in 2003 and following this, discovered that her two sons were autistic. She has since gone on to work, voluntarily helping chronically disabled people access services within the community. Nominated under the courageous category, the Stevens were declared the winners at the Family Picnic in Regents Park, London on 25th May 09.
