LGA's Margaret Eaton on the launch

With councils under increasing scrutiny and public sector cuts looming, frontline workers are being acknowledged for their hard work and dedication. Council Worker of the Year champions the unsung heroes of local government who go that extra mile on a daily basis. Chairman of the Local Government Association Cllr Dame Margaret Eaton talks to the Local Government Channel as the finalists are announced about the importance of recognising their achievements. Plus we catch up with one of last year's winners to see what winning the award has meant to him and his council.

23 finalists from authorities across the UK have battled it out for a place in the finals, now it's over to the public to decide who should win. Visit our awards page to see films of all the shortlisted workers in the categories of Community Engagement, Green Award, Working with Young People, Bravery, Team of the Year and Lifetime Service.
