Teacher of Mobility Education, Rochdale Borough Council

Dave has given up his own time, over the years (evenings, weekends and holiday time) to enable blind and partially sighted children and young people in Rochdale to have access to team sports.

He has developed his own VI Ten Pin Bowling team called the VIpers (VI persons) and they regularly compete in a national league with other VI bowling teams across the UK.

He not only gets young people interested in sports but he uses the opportunity to encourage social interaction between both children and young people and their families. He is wonderful at giving our children encouragement and improving their self esteem. They also benefit from meeting others in the same position, so they do not feel so isolated. Their families also benefit from meeting each other and use the opportunity to share experiences of having a child with a visual impairment.
